Art Enrichment

The arts are a vibrant part of every classroom at Freedom Montessori School . Children engage in a variety of art activities ranging from painting, to drawing, to crafting. In the primary ages 3-6 years, the lessons broaden to include a wide range of visual media and techniques, as well as art history and the fundamental elements of art.

Some examples include: Acrylic,  Mosaics, Photography, Watercolor, Weaving, Drawing, Mask-Making, Knitting  etc.

Dr. Maria Montessori knew that even the youngest child is drawn irresistibly to beautifully colored materials as well as an environment that is aesthetically pleasing in its simplicity of carefully chosen objects and art work. A variety of art will be displayed in limited numbers in the classroom at a time but rotated throughout the year.

We view the arts as an integral part of the child's learning experience, and therefore, children are encouraged to incorporate the art techniques they learn into their academic projects and studies whenever possible. They are also encouraged to always try new media and foster as much creativity as possible.

Spanish Enrichment

Children will gain exposure and/or improve their confidence in Spanish. This lively program will give youngsters a foundation upon which to build the language through songs, stories, puppets, dance, games and arts and crafts. This is an instructive, yet fun class in a supportive and nurturing environment. Children do not need prior exposure to Spanish. We believe that learning more than one language is just as normal as learning only one and that learning a second language in school teaches children additional language skills and advanced cognitive abilities. This program helps develop their English vocabulary and in seeing the similarities of the languages.

Music Enrichment

Our weekly music class brings a wealth of instrumental and classical music instruction. The teacher brings a wide collection of multicultural instruments and integrates them into our monthly theme. The music program integrates rhythmic expression and interpretation, group ensemble playing, and gross movement activities set to music. The curriculum encourages singing and listening, in order to build an inner voice and tone/note recognition.
